Even with the majority of ghost hunters standing by their statements that orbs are nothing more than dust there are still those who refuse to believe it. These people consistently point out the floating round anomalies saying things as “this is a spirit that is not strong enough to manifest completely” or “look how many ghosts are in this picture” or event “I’ll never go back in that dusty attic again there’s ghosts up there.”  We at PPS do not believe that orbs are anything but dust or the occasional bug and will not accept any such “evidence” as proof of a haunting. The ASSAP site that we have linked on the right has a great explanation of how orbs are created when the picture is taken but even with that some refuse to accept the truth. They offered up arguments about how orbs can be real if 2 or more cameras take a picture at the same time and the “orb” only appears in one of them. They dismiss the fact that its hard to take to completely simultaneous pictures and that in the microsecond difference of the clicks the dust particle may have moved. It was also hard to prove this since each camera only has one lens and it is almost impossible to get two completely different cameras to sync up exactly. That is until now, when a fellow ghost hunter by the name of Steve Parsons from Para Science in UK bought a new Fuji 3d camera conducted an experiment. The 3d camera has two separate lenses and shutters that will take pictures at the exact same time, the lenses are spaced apart so that they may be put together and viewed with 3d glasses. However in this case Dr. Parsons examined each individual frame to determine if the “orb” was dust or a spirit. Here is the article written by Para.science and the results. http://www.parascience.org.uk/articles/orbkill.htm

  1. Ahhh…. The dreaded orb controversy. It amazes me that many paranormal groups’ websites feature orb photography as their cornerstone evidence. I have gotten to the point where even if they have credible evidence, I’ll never see it as I have already rated them as being amateurish and uninformed.
The automatic assumption that any light anomaly showing on photographs is an under-powered entity is ridiculous. A true “orb” is a pocket of energy. It could be “ball lightning” which is a phenomenal light show if you are fortunate enough to see one, or some other form of energy which fits the term paranormal (beyond what is normally experienced), but is not a wayward spirit. We at PPS as Rex stated, rule out any “orb evidence”, as the chance of it being something very natural is just too great.
Should we ever present an orb as plausible evidence of having paranormal origins, the orb must: 1. emit it’s own light which is visible to the naked eye 2. Exhibit intentional movement and 3. Is backed up with additional, measurable evidence (i.e. emf fluctuation, temperature spike, etc)
We have only strayed once from this criteria, when in the view of an unattended IR camera we witnessed a ‘pulsating light anomaly’ which pulsed on and off in a rhythmic pattern, turned and followed the pitch of the staircase and them zoomed out of frame when Investigators approached. Even then, we only offered the video as “interesting” and not evidence.
‘Paranormal Investigators’ are cropping up everyday. We welcome those looking for answers, but I implore you to hold yourselves accountable for the ‘evidence’ you bring to both the client and your peers.

  2. [...] are new to the site and could not tell by the italicized word love, I was being sarcastic, see my post from last may to learn more. Today while checking the PPS  facebook page I saw a status update from someone [...]

  3. Photographs do not show the flight pattern of orbs. Video does. Dust, insects, pollen and or moisture do not have a set flight pattern. I will give you an example of a true paranormal orb. An orb appeared on my IR camera. It started on the lower left of the viewing area, traveled on a right angle to the right side of the door frame. It traveled up along side the door frame and made a left turn above the door frame, following the top of the door frame then traveled down on the left side of the door frame to the bottom then traveled down on a rigth angle and disappeared. Insects, dust, pollen etc. cannot do what that orb did and I would challenge anyone to prove me wrong. To me that orb showed thought and if it showed thought then it would mean it’s intelligent. If it’s intelligent then it’s paranormal. Geo.

  4. Actually dust, pollen and insects can all do as you described. Following a door frame does not denote intelligence, it just made turns at right angles, which could be accomplished by a number of things. For instance drafts coming from the door frames and positions of air vents could cause the “orb” to suddenly change direction. Another possibility is because the depth of field is very limited when using an IR camera and that the “orb” is actually moving in multiple directions(forward and right, or back and left) but it looks as if its only moving at a right angle. This limitation in the depth of field is also why a 3-dimensional “orb” appears to be 2-dimensional. Pollen is in the same category as dust and would follow the same rules. An insect explanation would be similar to the first dust example in that it follows any air coming from the edges of the door frame, as it may be trying to find a way out of the room.

I have given you 3 very possible explanations for your video without even seeing it. If I saw it I could probably come up more, this is one of the hardest things about this field proving a piece of evidence. In this field you almost have to think of the evidence as you would think of a court room trial, it has to be beyond the shadow of a doubt. For us to even consider an orb as truly paranormal we would have to see it ourselves without the aid of a camera or IR device. For this reason we do not have any orbs as evidence, yes you will find pictures on this site that have “orbs” in them but they are not paranormal and we point that out in the description.

There is a group called ASSAP out of the UK that has been around for 30 years and has spent an incredible amount of time explaining just about every type of orb you can think of. This group has been mentioned in almost all of our posts about orbs and can be found at this link they welcome anybody to send them their orb photos and videos for analysis at photoquery@assap.org. I would be interested to hear their analysis of your video and to hear what you about it.
