Meet the investigators: Rex

Why did you join Pasadena Paranormal?

A lot of people say they join a paranormal group because they’ve always had an interest in the field and I am no different. Where I differ is the reason for my interest. Most people, I’ve found, are looking for some kind of spiritual confirmation or to indulge some personal curiosity. I am the type of person who needs to know how things work and this field is no different. I have always believed in the existence of ghosts but I could never understand how, beyond all scientific explanation, they do exist. Most “real” scientists simply refuse to accept their existence even with the mountains of evidence that suggests otherwise. I wanted to change how people look at the field and present hard evidence backed with enough data that will hopefully show some kind of trend that can be recreated. This is why I joined a paranormal group, the reason I chose Pasadena Paranormal is because I wanted to belong to a group that didn’t jump to conclusions.

There are a lot of groups out there and a large number of those groups are either thrill seekers or TAPS imitators, they believe that anything that happens when they are in a supposedly haunted location is paranormal without any other investigation. Groups like this tend to brag about the famous haunted locations that they paid to visit and talk about their experiences, which is usually an account that no one else can verify. The evidence they present are usually some low quality evps or my favorite, ORBS!

PPS is different, we tend to focus on helping homeowners understand the things that are happening to them. We record lots of data that we can analyze and look for trends, we also have a pretty meticulous way of determining what evidence we present to the clients and on the web. We will list personal experiences that team members had at a site but will NEVER use that when making a determination about its level of activity. But most importantly PPS has a great group of team members who have the same view of what a paranormal group should be.

Have you ever had a paranormal experience before joining PPS?

Yes. I had several experiences in the house I grew up in. One night while lying wide awake in my bed I witnessed an apparition, the way my bed was positioned I could look out my bedroom door and see directly into my parents room. At this time they were still downstairs watching tv, I remember looking into their room and seeing movement then I saw what I can only describe as a red translucent mass that hovered about a foot off the ground. It went from my vantage point right to left and then back, this happened several times and then it disappeared into my parents closet. Needless to say I had an even harder time sleeping after that, after all I was very young at the time. I never saw the figure again, but I never will forget how it looked. Shortly after this other things started happening around the house, objects would move on their own including one instance where a glass tipped on its side and balanced on an angle for a few seconds before returning to its base. An interesting side note, the house I currently live in is in the same neighborhood and we have had some experiences here.

What do you hope the group achieves?

I feel like PPS has achieved a lot since it was founded and has helped many people understand and accept what is happening in their homes. I want to continue this and help as many people as possible but I would also like to see this group take paranormal investigation to a different level. The main goal would be to show the scientific community that the paranormal can be studied.

What do you hope to achieve for yourself?

I have accepted that I may not ever find out every answer to every question I have about life, the universe and everything else because I know that with every answer comes more questions and the paranormal field is no different. What I do hope to accomplish is to contribute enough to the field so that we can begin asking new questions rather than the same ones we’ve always asked.

Other biographical information:

Profession: Software engineer

Other interests besides ghosts:

When I’m not working or chasing ghosts I spend the majority of my time with my wife and kids. We love the beach, so we take quite a few trips to Ocean City during the summer. I’m also kind of a tech geek, I’ve designed and maintain this website along with some experimental new equipment for paranormal research.

Why did you join Pasadena Paranormal?

I joined PPS because I have a lot of lingering questions about some very personal experiences I had as a child. No one believed me about what I had seen. I have spent most of my adult life trying to get answers about what I had experienced. I found PPS on the WEB one day, while doing some research on local groups. Having grown up in the Pasadena area it was an immediate draw. After my first interview with Dave, Scott and Rex I knew that PPS was the group that would be the real deal.

What do you hope the group achieves?

I hope that we are able to answer questions that clients have. Hopefully we can bring some peace of mind, so people don’t feel alienated or alone. Lastly, I hope we are able to present evidence and theories that can help further the paranormal research field.

What do you hope to achieve for yourself?

I would like to answer at least one of those lingering questions I have. Also, I hope to help a lot of people to feel more comfortable, and understand the paranormal more.
